TF2 War Paint Collections

Team Fortress 2's classic weapon skins are organised into named collections — themed sets where each weapon carries a grade and ships in five wear tiers. These pages are original, data-backed write-ups of the 8 most substantial classic sets (158 war-painted weapons in total): what each set is about, how its grades are distributed, and what tends to move value inside it.

How to read a collection

Every weapon in a collection has a grade and a wear tier. Grades run, rarest to most common: Elite, Assassin, Commando, Mercenary, Freelance, Civilian — the rarer the grade, the less often that weapon appears. Wear runs Factory New → Minimal Wear → Field-Tested → Well-Worn → Battle Scarred, describing how scuffed the paint looks. Together they set the floor for what a piece is worth before quality (like Strange) and pattern centring come into it.

The Civilian → Commando sets

In CheckPaint's own data these four collections share a four-rung ladder that tops out at Commando grade. They tend to be the larger, more motif-driven sets — built for matched, grounded loadouts.

The Mercenary → Elite sets

These four collections run two grades higher, adding the scarce Assassin and Elite tiers above the base. The chase pieces here are rarer in kind, not just in look — Elite is the rarest Decorated grade.
