About CheckPaint.tf

CheckPaint.tf is a free, community-built pricing and analytics tool for Team Fortress 2 war paints — the decorated weapon finishes that are some of the hardest items in the game to value. Our goal is simple: take the guesswork out of war paint trading by turning a noisy, scattered market into clear, up-to-date prices anyone can read at a glance.

What are war paints?

War paints are Team Fortress 2 items that apply a unique, often collectible finish to a weapon. Each paint can appear at five different wear levels — from Factory New to Battle Scarred — and many also exist in a Strange quality that counts kills. Because every combination of paint, wear and quality trades as its own distinct item, a single design can span dozens of separately priced variants. That variety is part of what makes war paints fun to collect, and exactly what makes them difficult to price.

Why pricing war paints is hard

Unlike keys or common cosmetics, most war paints trade infrequently and across several marketplaces at once. Listings appear and disappear quickly, prices are quoted in a mix of keys, refined metal and real-world currencies, and a Factory New example can be worth many times its Battle Scarred counterpart. Without a tool that watches the whole market continuously, it is easy to over- or under-value a paint by a wide margin — which is how traders end up overpaying or selling far below market.

How CheckPaint prices them

CheckPaint listens to live trading activity from Backpack.tf in real time, normalises every listing into a consistent format, and stores it as a structured price history. A fair-price model then weights recent activity more heavily than older data, so the numbers you see reflect what the market is actually doing now rather than one stale listing. Prices update continuously and are converted into your local currency, so comparing two paints — or two wear levels of the same paint — takes a single glance.

Browse the full catalog

The War Paint Catalog lets you explore every tracked paint, open a specific design, and compare prices across all of its wear levels and Strange variants. Each item page pairs the current price with a 60-day history and the latest buy and sell orders, so you can read trends instead of guessing where a price is headed.

Value your inventory

Sign in through Steam and CheckPaint will read your war paint inventory and estimate its total value, break it down item by item, flag duplicates, and show how your collection compares to the wider market. It is useful whether you are trading actively, building a set, or simply curious what your backpack is worth.
